It’s been a long, long time since I read Chomsky’s “Manufacturing Consent” but it did an awesome job of showing in a very logical, unbiased and common sense way how the mass media operates. That was published around the birth of the internet.

It’s been less long, but still quite awhile ago, since I read and listened to Michael Parenti. Many of the things he had to say have really stuck with me. One involved “freedom of the press.” He obviously directed it at the media, but it can be true of all of us. He said something about how they (and we) are “free as birds” to say whatever they (and we) want to say. It’s all o.k. so long as we fly (talk) in the same old circles. Many people have the illusion of freedom. They think they are free to say whatever they want, and in a way they are, because it would just never occur to them to say something outside the accepted circular paths. They don’t need a censor standing over them because they have one in their heads. When someone does think and talk outside the acceptable routine, when one converts from a liberal complaint to a radical analysis, then the external censors step in, as that young man in that class room did.

The refreshing thing is, that’s all they’ve got. All they’ve got is labels like “crazy” and “anti-semite” etc. All they can do is not publish, not air, shout down and talk over and try to push emotional buttons and ridicule etc.

We’ve got the Truth. We’ve got logic, rationality, evidence, etc.
We’ve got the Truth. We can stand there all day long and present evidence and ask obvious questions.
To any half-way intelligent observer, they look bad and we look good.

Building 7 is not anti-semitic.
It’s anti-logic, anti-commonsense, anti-American, anti-justice, anti-life not to ask, “what happened to building 7?”.
I’m sorry you still sting… I understand though. I’m glad you were able to have a productive discourse in spite of the roadblock. I’m always torn, is it better to address the roadblock directly and ask “what is anti-semitic about the melting point of steel?” etc. or is it better to ignore the roadblock and attempt to reach the reachable? I guess it depends. If you can annihilate the roadblock, that may do more to elevate the standing of your argument in the minds of your listeners than the quality and quantity of your evidence and the cogency of your position etc. That’s just a typical reaction for many people…
